Abstract: An individual's body is central to their interactions with the environment. Accurately perceiving the boundaries of the body, its position in space, and its movements is fundamental for survival and daily social interactions. My research investigates the processes that enable the coherent perception of the body as an identifiable whole—one that is recognized as our own and under our control. Specifically, I aim to develop theoretical and empirical models that account for various aspects of bodily perception while integrating the inherent uncertainty of sensory information. My work relies heavily on computational tools to bridge behavioral and neuroimaging data. In this seminar, I will illustrate my approach by presenting findings from my previous research on body ownership—the perception of our body and limbs as integral parts of a unified self. Overall, my work contributes to understanding how sensory systems shape our bodily experience and self-perception.
