Mélanie is joining the DePhy team as a postdoc

working with Dr. Hippolyte GROS. She will be studying children’s mathematical word-problem solving, with a particular interest in how linguistic and semantic information influences strategies children sue and the difficulties they may encounter. Using eye-tracking, she will investigate these processes in children with language and/or mathematics difficulties and explore ways to better support their problem solving.

Melanie is a trained speech-language pathologist. She completed her PhD in Montréal (Québec), where she explored children’s understanding of base-ten numeration and how instruction embedded in analogies can support their understanding. In parallel, she worked on various research projects examining the role of representations and analogical reasoning in mathematical understanding, as well as word-problem solving in children with and without difficulties.
